This is my surreal take on a job I once had. I was a toy designer for ten years before I started my career as a "real artist." The last company I worked for was Master Replicas. When I got there in 2003 I was hired for twice the salary I had at my previous job at McFarlane Toys. Little did I know that about two months after I got to my new job the company was bankrupt. Something I never questioned during the interview as they were putting me up in 300 dollar a night hotels. The top two characters represent the former CEO and the Accounting department. The two characters yelling at one another are Product Development and the Marketing Department. The guy smiling was the Sales department. We were all connected and all sinking. The company found financing for awhile and had a good product with an FX lightsaber but ultimately the prop replica business was doomed as the market segment that appreciates and buys high end collectibles is just too small to support an actual business. Currently no one who was there when I was hired still works there and from what I hear the company is very close to deaths door.
Amazing you are like my new hero, working at both those companies and now creating these amazing works of art by using those experiences. Truly inspiring...by the way I own every fx lightsaber they produced.

Sounds like a good life you have there. I was at star wars celebration 4 in LA too bad master replicas wasn't. Were you there when that whole thing happened?
I love the detail you give to the shading, it really brings the piece to life.

Across the globe, 27 million men, women, and children live in some form of slavery. That is more people at this moment than in all the centuries of the Atlantic Slave Trade. Something must be done. This contest serves two purposes: Raising awareness about human trafficking and raising funds for the Not For Sale organization.
Open to all mediums. Deadline is March 10, 2010 @ 11:59pm PST.
